I'm more into Brit/Aussie rock, less superficial and *american* if y'know what I mean..like Radiohead, Stereophonics, The Vines, Jet, Powderfinger..etc etc..too many to list here For some reason, I'm really starting to get into Britpop/rock actually *shock, horror, no..i've become a teenybopper again!* Well just Oasis, Coldplay, Keane, Travis, Starsailor..

I LOVE music. I'm trying to expand my musical horizons because I think that most people get stuck on one type and in one era. That's why you see older people who only listen to a couple of boring old bands! So here's a list of recommendations and must haves:
[glow=red,2,300]Punk Rock[/glow]
The Pixies-Come on Pilgrim/Surfer Rosa This band didn't last long but it was and inspiration to many greats including Nirvana! They recently got back together and are now touring. Unique sound for people who crave something different.
Bad Religion-Generator or The New America Bad Religion is amazing because unlike many other "punk" bands, they are melodic and you can easily understand the lyrics. Luckily, the lyrics are intelligent and cover a wide range of subjects. (I hate that most music talks about relationships!)
Operation Ivy-Energy Yes, Op Ivy has the sound that most punk bands do..a little raw. The thing that makes them distinctive is that they did it very well. You can understand many lyrics without having to look them up, they're fun to uhh.. "sing" to.
[glow=red,2,300]Alternative[/glow]
They Might Be Giants-Flood or Lincoln or Apollo 18 You have to have a sense of humor to appreciate them. Though they may sound silly sometimes they have a fun method of using metaphor. Whenever I listen to them it puts me in an inventing mood.
[glow=red,2,300]Jam Bands[/glow]
Rusted Root-When I woke Man. If you ever feel like dancing or just want to feel like you're at carnivale or Mardi Gras then listen to this band! They have a soulful sound and plenty of drums.
[glow=red,2,300]Rap[/glow]
Ok, I used to hear the word RAP and I'd cringe but the thing is that there are some really great rap songs out there. You just have to dig under the gangsta rap to find them. Some old skool stuff is really good too.
Outkast In my opinion you have to pick through their catalogue to find the really great stuff. One of my favourites is BOB. There's a remix that is impossible to listen to without dancing. No kidding. I have a friend who steadily avoids dancing and runs away at the mere mention of the word. One play of this song and he does the standard I'm-scared-to-dance-but-I-can't-help-myself bop.
Tricky-Maxinquaye Tricky has a way of being rap without sounding like your average rap because they sneak in some rock sound. Great bass and lyrics and the female (includes female and male voices) artist has an interesting voice.
[glow=red,2,300]Jazz[/glow]
Ray Charles-The Best of..The Atlantic Years Old stuff but really *!@ good!
Frank Sinatra-The Capitol Years
Harry Connick Jr. This guy basicly sounds like he came straihgt out of the 50s. He brings new life to old Sinatra tunes and sings some others' classics and even brings some new ones to the table. With plenty of old time spirit and a lovely voice to croon with, this guy is worth listening to.
[glow=red,2,300]Goth/Industrial[/glow]
Nitzer Ebb-Ebbhead I used to eat this for breakfast to pump myself up for a day of hell A.K.A. highschool. Other Nitzer Ebb ablums have a dancier sound that still rocks but this album is worth a listen for anyone claiming to like the genre.
[glow=red,2,300]Rockabilly[/glow]
The Reverend Horton Heat-The Fully Custom Gospel Sounds NO, this isn't a religious band. The Rev is a great cross between Chubby Checker & Johnny Cash with a little Glenn Danzig thrown in. I've been to more concerts than I can remember and they rock every single time.
[glow=red,2,300]Soundtracks[/glow]
The Rushmore Soundtrack provides a great blend of relaxed sounds including a mellow french song (Yves Montand) and songs from some classics like the Kinks, The Who and Cat Stevens.
[glow=red,2,300]African Sound[/glow]
Ladysmith Black Mambazo-Shanachie Songs sung a cappella (without music) by a large group of South African men. Made popular by singing on Paul Simon'sGraceland, this amazing group provides relaxed enjoyment.
Happy Listening!
Oh yes, does anyone have any zydeco recommendations? How about French pop/Rock?
