Role Playing Game Guide
Posting In Character
- Always post in character, not as you.
- Make sure to put your character's name in Bold at the top of each post to make it bold you do this [*b]Harry Potter[*/b], just take out the *. This will make:
Harry Potter
- You should always post in the 3rd person as if you were writing a book. Never in first person, don’t confuse yourself with your character. Example:
:: walks in the Great Hall::
Not:
:: I walk in the Great Hall ::
- When posting action, post :: in between double colons like I am doing with this section of text :: (Please reWizard that you can substitute :: for other characters, such as: *; []; ||; etc…) Example:
:: walks in the Great Hall and sits on the Gryffindor table ::
Or:
*walks in the Great Hall and sits on the Gryffindor table*
- When talking to someone put their name, a colon, and then what you are saying. Or you can use parentheses. When talking, always put quotes (“ ”). Example (this is you talking to Hermione):
Hermione: “What's the name of that spell you used on the dragon snare?”
Or:
(to Hermione): “What’s the name of that spell you used on the charms class again?”
- Thoughts should always be in italics. [*I]Thought goes here[/*I]. Example:
Oh, d**n! I forgot my wand at my dorm!
- As much as possible, don't post actions for someone else. Don't harm another without permission and don't put them in other situations without their permission. An example of something you shouldn't do:
:: Puts her hand in James' and groans when he backs way ::
You should write:
:: Puts her hand in James' ::
And wait for a reply, then you can write your reaction to his move.
- Never post twice in a row. You must wait for at least another character to respond before posting again.
Posting out of Character
OOC: Question, comment.
BIC: continue posting in character.
Note: OOC stands for Out Of Character. Most RPGs will have and OOC thread so OOC should only be used in the playing thread if absolutely necessary as short phrases to help clarify your post. Be sure to always follow your OOC with a BIC (Back In Character).
An example of a scene:
Quote:
Lily
OOC: I'll post this one as if she's still a student at hogwarts BIC:
Quote:Hermione sat in the courtyard, quietly reading her textbooks and feeling the warmth of the monday sun on the back of her head. The breeze flowed through her long brown hair as lifted her head up from her book - feeling the coolness of a shadow standing behind her. To her annoyance, she turned around to look at none other then Draco Malfoy.
:: stands up and gathers her things ::
Draco: “And what can I do for you Potter?”
What does he want with me? Can’t he see that I absolutely despise him!?
